McKinney grad looks forward to future with reconstructed skull implant

McKINNEY, Texas | December 20, 2024 (NBC) —

A devastating car accident in March 2024 left recent McKinney North High School graduate Trevor Dutton with a life-threatening head injury and significant challenges on his road to recovery. To save his life, surgeons removed a large portion of his skull to relieve brain swelling, leaving him reliant on a protective helmet as he underwent months of rehabilitation. Despite his determination, Trevor’s progress was limited until MedCAD, a Dallas-based medical device company, played a pivotal role in his journey.

MedCAD, using proprietary software, utilized a detailed CT scan of Trevor’s skull to fabricate an artificial skull plate specifically for him.

In July, Dr. Shaad Bidiwala performed the successful cranioplasty using MedCAD’s implant, restoring both protection and structure to Trevor’s skull. Dr. Bidiwala praised the company’s ability to rapidly deliver such life-changing technology, emphasizing how advancements like this have revolutionized patient outcomes.

Now, Trevor is confident on his road to recovery, working out in the gym twice a day to regain the strength the incident took away from him.

He looks forward to starting college next fall at Texas State.
